KARACHI: The first Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Hangor, has arrived in Karachi, marking a major milestone in Pakistan Navy’s modernization efforts.
Pakistan Navy accorded the submarine a traditional welcome upon its arrival. Senior naval officers, crew members’ families, and Pakistan Navy personnel attended the ceremony. Cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy presented a ceremonial salute, while Pakistan Navy Z9EC helicopters conducted a fly-past to honor the occasion.
A reception ceremony later took place at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard. Commander Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Abdul Munib attended the event as the chief guest.
According to the Pakistan Navy, PNS/M Hangor features advanced combat systems, modern sensors, Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, and enhanced stealth capabilities. These features will strengthen the Navy’s operational effectiveness and underwater warfare capabilities.
Officials said the induction of the submarine represents a significant step in enhancing Pakistan’s maritime defense and security.
The arrival of PNS/M Hangor also highlights the strong strategic defense partnership between Pakistan and China. The submarine is part of the Hangor-class program aimed at modernizing Pakistan Navy’s submarine fleet and improving its combat readiness.
Pakistan Navy described the induction as a transformative development that will contribute to maintaining a credible maritime deterrence capability and safeguarding the country’s maritime interests.
