The Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD) has solidified its position as the world’s largest cardiac care facility, providing free treatment to over 2 million patients in 2024. Executive Director Professor Jawaid Akbar Sial highlighted SICVD’s groundbreaking achievements, which include operating nine hospitals and 28 Chest Pain Units (CPUs) across Sindh, offering advanced cardiac procedures at no cost.
In 2024, SICVD performed 11,377 primary angioplasties, 2,145 open-heart surgeries, 1,618 pediatric cardiac interventions, and over 100 stroke treatments. Additionally, 460,832 emergency visits and 361,042 outpatient consultations were recorded.
The institution’s extensive network, spanning cities like Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, and Lyari, caters not only to Sindh but also to patients from across Pakistan. Over 119,000 out-of-province patients sought treatment at SICVD this year, underscoring its national impact.
SICVD’s 28 CPUs played a vital role as first-response centers, treating 376,524 patients and transferring 8,867 heart attack cases for immediate angioplasty. Plans are underway to add three more CPUs in Karachi and other cities, further expanding its reach.
Professor Sial announced that the SICVD Baldia Town facility in Karachi is nearing completion and will soon provide state-of-the-art services to local residents. He credited the Sindh Government’s unwavering support for the network’s success.
Since its inception, SICVD has prioritized accessibility and affordability, setting global benchmarks in cardiac care by offering world-class treatment to underserved populations.
