Wana Operation Security Forces Foil Suicide Attack, Kill Terrorist in South Waziristan

Wana Operation successfully prevented a major terrorist attack after security forces destroyed an explosives-laden vehicle intended for a suicide bombing during an intelligence-based operation in South Waziristan, officials said on Saturday.

According to security sources, troops carried out the operation in the Ghwakhwa area of Lower South Waziristan after monitoring the suspected vehicle for three days. They struck only after it moved away from populated areas, ensuring civilian safety.

Officials said the vehicle carried a large quantity of explosives and was prepared for a suicide attack targeting Wana and nearby communities. The operation destroyed both the vehicle and a motorcycle before militants could carry out the planned assault.

Security forces killed one militant and injured five others during the operation. Officials described the action as a significant success in preventing a potentially devastating terrorist attack.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for their swift response. He said intelligence-based operations had once again frustrated the plans of terrorist groups. He also commended personnel for protecting lives and property through professional planning and execution.

Separately, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed a wanted militant during another intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan.

The CTD identified the militant as Khalid alias Commander. Authorities said he belonged to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s Zakir Kochi Karwan group and faced charges in several terrorism cases, including the killing of CTD Constable Muhammad Ali in March 2025.

According to the CTD, officers acted on verified intelligence about the suspect’s presence in the Korai area. They asked him to surrender several times, but he opened fire instead. Security personnel returned fire and killed him during the exchange.

Investigators recovered a 9mm pistol, a hand grenade and a smartphone from the scene. The CTD said forensic analysis is under way, while authorities continue efforts to trace the militant’s facilitators and support network.

The latest operations highlight Pakistan’s continuing campaign against militant groups through intelligence-led actions aimed at preventing attacks and protecting civilians.
