Pakistan-Canada Ties Ishaq Dar, Anita Anand Agree to Expand Bilateral Cooperation

Pakistan-Canada Ties received fresh momentum on Monday as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand agreed to deepen cooperation across a range of priority sectors during talks in Islamabad.

The two ministers reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and Canada and agreed to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Earlier, delegation-level discussions focused on ways to enhance diplomatic engagement and broaden collaboration between the two countries.

Welcoming Anand to Islamabad, Dar recalled their previous meeting in Switzerland and said Pakistan and Canada had maintained regular diplomatic engagement. He stressed that Pakistan remains committed to proactive diplomacy and sees considerable potential for stronger bilateral ties.

Dar also described the Pakistani community in Canada as an important bridge between the two countries. He expressed confidence that Anand’s visit would open new opportunities for cooperation and further strengthen relations.

Anand thanked Pakistan for its warm welcome and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to building closer ties. She highlighted the contribution of more than 300,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin and described the community as an important link in the relationship.

She said both countries could play a greater role in the global economy by expanding cooperation in agriculture, industry and other sectors. Anand also expressed optimism that her visit would produce meaningful progress in advancing bilateral collaboration.

The Canadian foreign minister arrived in Islamabad at the invitation of Ishaq Dar. Senior Foreign Office officials welcomed her upon arrival. During her visit, she is also scheduled to meet Pakistan’s top leadership to discuss the full range of Pakistan-Canada relations and explore new avenues for cooperation.
