Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Italy and Greece on Saturday to protest against the US military intervention in Venezuela, denouncing Washington’s actions and urging respect for Venezuelan sovereignty.

In Rome, more than 1,000 protesters marched toward the US Embassy, calling for the immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Roads around the embassy were blocked by police to prevent demonstrators from approaching the building, but protesters continued to voice strong opposition to the US operation.
“First of all, we oppose US imperialist aggression. This kind of behaviour is shameful,” said one protester, accusing Washington of acting in its own interests. Participants included members of various political parties, labour unions, and social organisations, carrying banners reading “Stop imperialist interference” and “Free Maduro”.
Organisers said similar solidarity rallies took place in about 30 Italian cities on the same day, showing widespread public dissent over the US offensive.
In Athens, around 200 people gathered outside the US Embassy, expressing support for Venezuela and condemning US military actions. “We oppose US imperialism and its attack on Venezuela,” said a Greek protester, who added that Washington’s threats extended beyond one nation.
The demonstrations come amid heightened global reactions to the US military operation in Venezuela that led to Maduro’s capture earlier this month, a move that has drawn both support and strong criticism internationally.
