Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the prime minister will first travel to Iran.

He will attend the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who Pakistan says was killed in US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, cabinet members and senior officials will accompany the prime minister.

According to Andrabi, Shehbaz Sharif will convey condolences on behalf of Pakistan’s government and people.

He will also reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran during the visit.

Turkiye visit to focus on trade

After Iran, the prime minister will travel to Türkiye at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The two leaders will discuss bilateral relations.

They will also focus on expanding trade and investment between the two countries.

In addition, they will exchange views on regional peace and security.

Shehbaz Sharif will also address a business conference organised by Pakistan.

The event will highlight investment opportunities in special economic zones, energy, trade, information technology and privatisation.

Furthermore, senior Turkish business leaders and investors will attend the conference.

Pakistan supports Iran-US dialogue

During the briefing, Andrabi also discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts following the US-Iran conflict.

He said Pakistan has increased engagement with regional and international partners.

The aim is to support the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The agreement provides a framework for ending the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

It also sets a timeline for negotiations on key issues.

According to Andrabi, talks between the United States and Iran in Doha made positive progress.

He added that Pakistan will continue supporting the negotiations alongside Qatar.

He also said Ishaq Dar has remained in contact with several foreign counterparts through high-level consultations.

Pakistan rejects India’s position on water

Meanwhile, Andrabi criticised India’s position on the Indus river system.

He said Pakistan rejects India’s attempt to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty by linking it to terrorism allegations.

He argued that water cannot serve as a political tool or a means of coercion.

Furthermore, he said international law protects Pakistan’s share under the treaty.

Andrabi warned that any attempt to block water flows could undermine regional peace and stability.

He also referred to an international seminar held in Islamabad earlier this week.

Participants called for protecting the treaty and resolving disputes through dialogue and legal mechanisms.

The spokesperson added that Ishaq Dar had described India’s move as illegal, unilateral and without legal basis.
