KARACHI: A major Keamari encroachment clearance operation was launched on Sunday after Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi directed authorities to remove illegal structures along both sides of the Lyari Expressway. The district administration carried out the operation with the participation of the Assistant Commissioner Keamari, the Mukhtiarkar, teams from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and local police. Officials used heavy machinery to dismantle unauthorized buildings, temporary sheds, roadside encroachments and other obstacles. The authorities also removed illegal parking areas established along the Lyari Expressway. After the operation, workers cleared the road and surrounding areas to improve traffic flow and make commuting easier for motorists. Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi said the administration would not allow illegal occupation of government land or encroachments along the Lyari Expressway. He said authorities would continue taking action against land grabbers without discrimination and warned that anyone attempting to re-establish encroachments would face strict legal action. He described the Keamari operation as part of a wider citywide campaign to reclaim public land, clear roads and improve traffic management across Karachi. The commissioner also instructed officials to monitor the cleared sites regularly to stop illegal occupations from returning. He reaffirmed that the anti-encroachment campaign would expand across the city and said authorities would make no exceptions for influential individuals or land mafias.
