KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday inaugurated Sindh’s first dedicated Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) police station to strengthen the crackdown on water theft across the city. The Cabinet-approved police station will investigate water theft cases, support legal proceedings and help protect Karachi’s water distribution network. The inauguration took place at the KW&SC headquarters in Karsaz. During the ceremony, KW&SC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui briefed the mayor on the new facility. According to Siddiqui, the police station covers about 12,500 square feet. It includes a 4,500-square-foot building and an 8,000-square-foot parking area. The facility features modern offices, an investigation room, a reception area, lock-up facilities, a police mobile unit and other operational infrastructure to support law enforcement. Speaking at the ceremony, Barrister Murtaza Wahab described the project as a major step towards improving municipal governance. He said Karachi, with a population of more than 30 million, needs stronger civic institutions to address public issues effectively. He said the dedicated police station reflects the Sindh government’s commitment to institutional reforms and better public service delivery. “We are moving towards a modern governance model where civic institutions can perform their responsibilities more effectively,” the mayor said. He added that residents deserve swift action against water theft, which continues to disrupt fair water distribution. Wahab thanked Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the Sindh government for supporting the project and securing cabinet approval. He said KW&SC had already intensified its anti-water theft campaign. The new police station will further strengthen enforcement by speeding up case registration, investigations and legal action against those involved in illegal water connections. The mayor also announced plans to launch a dedicated public complaint hotline. Citizens will be able to report water theft and illegal hydrants for immediate action. In addition, Wahab said he would request the Inspector General of Police Sindh to provide more personnel for the specialised unit. He added that KW&SC plans to expand the policing model to district level in phases to improve enforcement across Karachi. Senior KW&SC officials, police officers and other dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony. Post navigation PPP: Black Day rally held in Karachi’s District Central
