Pakistan marked Navy Day on 8 September, honouring the courage and sacrifices of naval personnel who served during the 1965 War and recognising the legacy carried forward by successive generations. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf said in his Navy Day message that historic Operation SOMNATH demonstrated how a determined maritime force could achieve decisive results despite numerical and material limitations. He said the courage and conviction displayed during the operation remained part of the Pakistan Navy’s institutional legacy, adding that the service had demonstrated the same resolve through what he described as successful deterrence against the Indian Navy during Marka-e-Haq. Admiral Naveed Ashraf laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad and met families of fallen personnel, acknowledging their sacrifices and resilience. Commemorative ceremonies and activities were also held at Pakistan Navy installations across the country. The Navy Day observances are held annually to remember the role of Pakistan’s naval forces during the 1965 War and pay tribute to personnel who have served in defence of the country.
