Lahore, 12 December 2025 – The Pakistan Navy has concluded the 8th Maritime Security Workshop at the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, with Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani urging the country to harness the full potential of its blue economy.

Addressing participants as Chief Guest at the closing ceremony, Gilani highlighted the growing importance of oceans in the 21st century and called for strengthened efforts to ensure regional maritime security. He praised the Pakistan Navy for its role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders and for raising public awareness on the strategic significance of the seas.
Gilani stressed that Pakistan’s maritime sector has “vast economic promise,” and said the country must expand its shipping and fishing capacities to generate stronger economic and socio-economic returns.
Upon his arrival, the Chief Guest was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf. Earlier, Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie, Commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College, briefed attendees on the workshop’s objectives and activities.
The annual Maritime Security Workshop aims to enhance national understanding of maritime geopolitics and security dynamics in the wider Indian Ocean region. This year’s participants included parliamentarians, policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, bureaucrats, officers from the armed forces, and media representatives.
