On its 31st day, the bustling cattle market has drawn large crowds, with buyers showing keen interest in rare and well-bred goats and sheep. According to Administrator Tariq Tanoli, this year’s mandi stands out due to the high influx of premium small livestock, particularly from interior Sindh.
Major consignments of goats have arrived from Kandiaro, Naushahro Feroze, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad, with the dedicated “Sibi Block” becoming a focal point for traders and visitors alike. Notable breeders, including Mirza Khan Muhammad and Abdul Majeed Marri, have brought large herds of high-quality animals.
Among the most sought-after breeds are Gulabi, Kamori, Barbari, Teddy and Tapra goats, along with Kajla, Sargodha, Larkana and Khara sheep. Prices for these animals start from Rs60,000 and can rise to several hundred thousand rupees depending on breed and quality.
Traders expressed optimism about strong sales, citing Karachi’s reputation for buyers who prefer premium sacrificial animals. “We hope to sell quickly and return home satisfied,” one trader said.
Authorities have implemented comprehensive arrangements to ensure a smooth experience for both traders and visitors. Tanoli confirmed uninterrupted water supply, full lighting, spacious parking and enhanced security measures across the mandi.
Strict veterinary screening is also in place, with doctors inspecting all incoming animals at the marshalling area to ensure only healthy livestock enter the market.
Meanwhile, the mandi remains active late into the night, with families and enthusiasts visiting not only to purchase animals but also to enjoy the festive atmosphere, including food stalls offering a variety of refreshments.
