KARACHI: The Awam Dost Cattle Market at Northern Bypass has recorded unprecedented sales ahead of Eidul Azha, with officials claiming that nearly 80 percent of the market has become vacant just three days before the festival due to strong buying activity.
According to Market Administrator Tariq Tanoli, only around 30 percent of livestock remains available at the market, prompting traders to bring additional animals from smaller cattle markets across Karachi to meet demand.
Tanoli said more than 250,000 animals have been sold over the past week, describing the turnout as one of the highest in the market’s history. The venue also witnessed a significant increase in visitors and buyers during the Sunday holiday.
Citizens visiting the market praised the management arrangements and said animal prices remained within a reasonable range. Buyers from various parts of Karachi appreciated the facilities and organisation provided at the market.
Several customers shared positive experiences, saying they were able to purchase sacrificial animals after a relatively short search and considered prices suitable for different budgets.
The market’s Food Street also remained crowded as visitors enjoyed meals and refreshments before transporting their purchased sacrificial animals home.
Officials described the market’s management as successful and said large-scale sales reflected strong public participation during the Eid shopping season.
