During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the incident and discussed concerns raised by traders regarding the operation carried out in the city’s Sarafa Bazaar.
The FIA director assured the delegation that the matter would be investigated in a “complete, transparent and impartial manner,” emphasizing that all aspects of the case would be reviewed thoroughly and in accordance with the law.
According to the spokesperson, the agency remains committed to fulfilling its responsibilities through legal procedures and institutional protocols.
Issues relating to cooperation, trust-building and grievances raised by members of the business community also came under discussion during the meeting.
The traders’ delegation appreciated the FIA’s efforts toward maintaining dialogue and constructive engagement on the issue, the spokesperson added.
The meeting follows a raid conducted on May 15, 2026, in Karachi’s Sarafa Bazaar, where the FIA targeted a jewellery outlet over allegations of silver smuggling.
According to earlier reports, the FIA claimed records indicated that 178 kilograms of silver should have been present at the shop, but only 15 kilograms of locally branded silver were recovered. Officials alleged that 163 kilograms of silver may have been removed during unrest that reportedly occurred during the operation.
The controversy intensified after CCTV footage emerged allegedly showing an FIA official slapping a trader during the raid. Following the incident, the agency suspended the SHO of its Anti-Corruption Circle based on preliminary findings and available evidence.
