Chairing a high-level meeting on energy sector reforms, the prime minister emphasised the need to provide greater facilitation to both industrial and domestic electricity consumers. He instructed officials to significantly reduce line losses by improving the electricity transmission system and to accelerate the adoption of modern technologies within the energy sector.
Highlighting long-term sustainability, the premier called for increased investment in renewable energy projects to address persistent power shortages. He also underscored the importance of digital solutions, directing that consumers be provided with convenient online facilities for electricity bill payments.
The government, he added, would continue strict enforcement measures to curb electricity theft nationwide, terming it essential for improving sector efficiency.
The directives follow recent remarks by Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, who warned that reliance on expensive fuel sources could raise electricity costs for consumers. However, he confirmed that the arrival of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment had helped restore normal electricity supply.
An LNG carrier delivering approximately 140,000 cubic metres of gas recently docked at the Pakistan GasPort terminal, enabling the resumption of stable power generation. Authorities are also working to secure another LNG cargo expected between May 10 and 12.
Following the latest supply improvements, the government expressed confidence that load-shedding has been eliminated and that, barring technical disruptions, consumers should not face further power outages.
